Mind Renewal 21-Day Journey

In the past 12 months I have consumed my mind with scripture and the truth that exists in Romans 12:2; specifically the renewing my mind part.

Do not conform to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Romans 12:2

I’ve discovered, like many before me, that our minds have been created in such a magnificent way, so much so , that the power of our mind is only partially understood by some of the most intelligent scientists. The choices we make in our thought life have been proven to fight cancer, aid in healing our bodies and transform lives, that seemed doomed for death or life spent in sickness as long as we choose life.

See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. 16 For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.

Deuteronomy 30:15-16

There is no way I can begin to say that I know anything about how the mind works or the power that God has created within it, but scripture tells us to renew our minds and guard it – therefore, I will and encourage all of you to as well. I have seen amazing transformation within the way I think about myself and with the change in how I view myself – I’ve seen changes in food sensitivities and a change in my overall health and relational health. I’m learning every day to look through a different lens. Instead of looking at things through my ‘flesh’/selfish view, I’ve begun to see things the way God would want me to view them. It’s amazing how, with even a little intentional focus on what I allow myself to think about impacts my whole ‘world’.

This practice of daily mind-renewal started when I was listening to Dr. Caroline Leaf in the book ‘Think and Eat yourself Smart‘. She has a huge focus on on how our food and our mind impact each other and can end up in a vicious cycle if we aren’t careful on the foods we choose. Throughout the book she talks about the importance on renewing our mind of toxic thoughts and how it takes 21 days to reset a thought pattern.

She has a 21-day mind detox that walks people through the steps of discovering toxic thoughts and guiding them through the process that is scientifically proven to change the brain and heal the negative thought. Well, since I had been falling in love with the concept of renewing my mind so that I can make better food choices, be a better mom, better wife, and better human in general – but mostly, to help me win the battle within myself causing stress, fear, anxiety and low self-esteem.

I’ve found my ‘inner-fight’ and it’s been working, one toxic thought at a time. I had been trying and losing this battle for so long to to see, in the first 21 days, that I felt lighter and more like myself was enough for me to have to share it with all of you.

For the next few blog posts I will be sharing what my mind detox and renewal looks like. It will be a bit raw and be from my heart my real life struggles with marriage, parenting, diet, exercise and…. We all have battles and even if yours aren’t the same as mine, I hope you find value in the way the Holy Spirit lead me to work on my mind.

Please note, you can’t copy my path, because your healing is unique to you and your journey to freedom is something the Holy Spirit should guide you in. Even if you can relate to some of my topics, be sure to turn to the Holy Spirit and ask Him where to start – He knows your path to healing. Pray and listen… that’s how this mind renewal works.

I encourage all of you to sign up for the year of 21-day mind renewals. She will give you the outline and the Holy Spirit will guide your direction to the renewal. To respect the work that Dr. Leaf does, I will not share all of her great information, but will share the steps – signing up for the program will give you the rest of what you need to do the same things I’ve done for almost 42 days now and will continue to cycle through as the Holy Spirit guides me further and further in my healing so that I can walk with purpose in the path He has set before me.

The steps that I’ll be following are:

  1. what are the toxic thoughts in my mind
  2. What does the Holy Spirit stir in me to work on
  3. Joural about it
  4. How does the Holy Spirit say I should begin to work on healing
  5. What are the active things I’ll do today to begin healing

In the 21-day detox she takes you on a journey to take these thoughts deeper than I will so that healing can happen. She has studied the mind and understands the process to remove toxic thoughts, so sign up for the program. My share is to simpy point people to her resource and to let you know, that you’re not a lone and it’s ok to acknowledge your feelings and thought.

This program has taken me from a state of defeat and saddness to one filled with hope and excitement as I imagine myself hunting down the toxic and false beliefs within me and make them obedient to Christ

We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ

2 Corinthians 10:5
